Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work

This recognised and regulated qualification is the UK standard required by the HSE & HSNI for employers who appoint workplace first aiders to deal with workplace emergencies as part of their first aid needs assessment.

Whilst being predominantly used in workplace setting, the course content and syllabus is applicable to a wide audience in various sectors including community, voluntary and other groups who would likely have to deal with a range of first aid situations.

About the course

This course is available in a classroom or online blended format, where learners may use online training (as part of our training package) to undertake part of the required training activity.

This consists of online video instructor lead training and assessments that are completed before attending the classroom portion of the course.

Classroom based v Online Blended

Learners can complete this course by attending all days in the classroom. This can be at our own training in venue in Coleraine, or for group training we can complete training at your venue – provided you have suitable space for training – See our Classroom and Training Venue Standards Policy

Online Blended Options (additional cost)

Learners have the option to complete online instructor lead video training, where they can complete this in their own time, at their own pace. Learners must successfully complete an online assessment and present the certificate when attending the classroom day for further practical training and assessment.

Course Entry Requirements:

Learners are required to evidence the following before they can be accepted on to the course:

Must be at least 14 years old (or older) on the first day of training

Valid ID Document to prove your Identity

Whilst there are no formal entry requirements for the qualification, a good understanding of English (reading and written) is required in order to complete the Qualification

Course Content

The course consists of two components, which includes the Emergency First at at Work Qualification and the additional component of Recognition and management of illness and injury in the workplace.

Learners who have completed an Emergency First Aid at Work Qualification within the previous 10 weeks may upgrade their eFAW qualification to the full FAW

Classroom:

Learners attend one of our Scheduled courses in Coleraine or have a course run at your own premises (minimum numbers required)

Online Blended {Re-Qual}:

Learners may complete 1 day online, and attend a 1 day in-person course.

Online Blended {inital}:

Learners may complete 1 day online, and attend a 2 day in-person course.

How the course is assessed

Learners are assessed by formative and summative, assessments conducted by your facilitator.

Formative Assessments:

Formative assessments are an ongoing, overall observation of your skills, abilities, attitudes and working practices; this is done by your facilitator throughout the course to ensure that you have the right attributes appropriate to the role.

Even if you pass all assessments, you still need to demonstrate to your facilitator that you are responsible and capable of the role, otherwise you could still be referred

Summative Assessments:

Summative assessments are final assessments of skills where you have opportunity to demonstrate to your facilitator that you have learned the required knowledge, either by demonstrating activities such as:

  • Demonstration of practical skills (for example: CPR, recovery position and other practical skills for example)
  • Multiple Choice Question Examination
