Level 3 Award in Administering Emergency Medical Gases (RQF)

The Level 3 Award in Administering Emergency Medical Gasses (RQF) has been designed specifically for those who have a responsibility for providing treatment to patients in a pre-hospital care environment. This could include those working in police or fire and rescue roles, or the private ambulance sector, community first responders (CFR’s), event first aiders etc.

About the course

Learners will be introduced to their requirements and responsibilities if they wish to be able to enhance their skills in this area. This qualification does not allow you procure and administer medical gasses as an individual; you must still work under the guidance of Patient Group Directives (PGD’s) that are overseen be a responsible medical officer for the organisation you are working with.

What will you learn

This classroom based course combines theory and practical knowledge where learners will develop an overview and understanding of prompt and effective administration of emergency medical oxygen and analgesic gases

Administering emergency analgesic agents (i.e. entonox)

Course content

Delivered over a full day session; learner and groups can split this into two evenings if required; or even theory can be delivered over live online classroom technology (i.e. Microsoft Teams or Zoom) contact us to discuss delivery options. 

  • Health & safety Considerations when using oxygen

  • Health & safety considerations when using Entonox
  • Actions of Entonox
  • Indications for administration in an emergency for adults and children
  • Cautions and contra-indications in the use of Entonox
  • Perform safety checks on equipment required to administer Entonox
  • Demonstrate the safe use of Entonox using required equipment
  • Monitor and record the effects of administering Entonox

How the course is assessed

Throughout the course, your interaction will be observed and assessed by the facilitator; where you will be expected to engage and participate fully in the various classroom activities; this is known as formative or ongoing assessment where your facilitator may ask questions, provide scenarios etc. to observe how you use and practice your new found knowledge and skills

In addition to this, you will have to complete the following summative assessments:

  • Practical classroom assessment
  • Learner Workbook (off-course)
 
Your practical classroom session will be observed scenario(s) where you trainer will observe your actions in a simulated environment; so that you can demonstrate the required competencies to show you will be able to do this on your own without someone having to coach you.

 

Your Leaner Workbook will be a number of short questions that you need to answer, that you will be required to type and provide answers to, researching some information from course books, or sources of evidence such as JRCalc for example to hep you answer the questions.
