Equality & Diversity Policy

Policy Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to set out the commitment of SCTNI Limited to promoting equality, diversity, inclusion, and fairness across all aspects of its operations. The organisation recognises that an inclusive and respectful learning and working environment is essential to achieving high standards of educational delivery, learner success, and professional conduct. This policy establishes the principles and responsibilities that ensure all individuals are treated with dignity and respect and that no person is disadvantaged through discrimination, exclusion, or unfair treatment.

Scope

This policy applies to all learners, prospective learners, employees, tutors, assessors, internal quality assurers, contractors, volunteers, employers, partners, and visitors engaged with SCTNI Limited. It covers all activities undertaken by the organisation, including recruitment, admissions, training delivery, assessment, quality assurance, certification, customer service, employment practices, and the provision of facilities and resources. The policy applies to behaviour both on site and during any activity conducted on behalf of the organisation, including remote or online delivery.

Policy Statement

SCTNI Limited is committed to creating an environment in which equality of opportunity is embedded into everyday practice and where diversity is valued as a strength. The organisation believes that individuals perform best when they feel safe, respected, and supported. SCTNI Limited will therefore take all reasonable steps to prevent discrimination, harassment, victimisation, or unfair treatment and will actively promote inclusive practices that enable all learners and staff to reach their full potential. Decisions relating to admissions, assessment, employment, or service provision will be based solely on objective criteria and merit, free from bias or prejudice.

Legal and Regulatory Framework

This policy operates in accordance with relevant equality and human rights legislation applicable within the United Kingdom, including the Equality Act 2010 and associated regulations. SCTNI Limited will also comply with the equality and diversity requirements of awarding organisations, regulators, and contractual partners. Where regulatory or contractual standards impose additional expectations, the organisation will meet or exceed those standards.

Principles

Equality within SCTNI Limited means ensuring that individuals are not treated less favourably because of protected characteristics or personal circumstances and that barriers to participation are identified and removed wherever reasonably practicable. Diversity means recognising, respecting, and valuing differences between individuals, including differences in background, experience, and perspective. Inclusion means creating an environment in which all individuals feel welcomed, supported, and able to participate fully. These principles underpin all policies, procedures, and decision-making processes within the organisation.

Responsibilities

Overall responsibility for the implementation of this policy rests with the Centre Director or Centre Manager, who will ensure that equality and diversity considerations are embedded within strategic and operational decisions. Managers and supervisors are responsible for promoting inclusive practices within their areas of responsibility and for addressing concerns promptly and fairly. All staff, tutors, and associates are individually responsible for treating others with respect, challenging inappropriate behaviour, and complying with this policy in their professional conduct. Learners are also expected to behave respectfully and to contribute positively to an inclusive learning environment.

Admissions and Access to Training

SCTNI Limited is committed to providing fair and open access to training opportunities. Admission decisions will be based on eligibility criteria relevant to the qualification or course and not on irrelevant personal characteristics. The organisation will provide clear information about entry requirements and will support individuals in understanding their options. Where barriers to participation are identified, the centre will consider reasonable steps to mitigate those barriers, provided that qualification standards and safety requirements are maintained.

Learning Environment

The organisation will maintain a learning environment that promotes dignity, respect, and professionalism. Teaching and assessment practices will be designed to be inclusive and accessible, taking account of different learning needs and styles. Materials and communications will be presented in ways that avoid bias or stereotypes and that reflect the diversity of learners and communities served. SCTNI Limited will foster a culture in which diversity of opinion and experience is valued and where individuals feel able to contribute without fear of discrimination or harassment.

Reasonable Adjustments and Support

Where learners or staff have disabilities, additional learning needs, or other circumstances requiring support, SCTNI Limited will consider reasonable adjustments to enable fair participation. Adjustments may include changes to teaching methods, assessment arrangements, facilities, or support services, provided that the integrity and standards of the qualification are maintained. The organisation will work collaboratively with individuals to identify appropriate solutions while respecting confidentiality and dignity.

Prevention of Discrimination and Harassment

SCTNI Limited has a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination, bullying, harassment, or victimisation of any kind. Behaviour that demeans, intimidates, excludes, or offends others is inconsistent with the organisation’s values and will not be accepted. Allegations of inappropriate behaviour will be taken seriously, investigated promptly, and addressed through appropriate corrective or disciplinary measures. The organisation will ensure that individuals who raise concerns in good faith are not subjected to adverse treatment.

Staff Recruitment and Employment

Employment practices within SCTNI Limited will be conducted fairly and transparently. Recruitment, promotion, training, and professional development opportunities will be based on merit, skills, and organisational need. The organisation will seek to ensure that employment decisions are free from bias and that staff are supported to develop and progress in their roles. A respectful and inclusive workplace culture will be maintained at all times.

Monitoring and Continuous Improvement

SCTNI Limited recognises that promoting equality and diversity is an ongoing process. The organisation will monitor its practices and outcomes to identify areas for improvement and to ensure that policies remain effective and relevant. Feedback from learners, staff, and stakeholders will be used to inform improvements. Equality considerations will be integrated into planning, review, and quality assurance activities to support continuous enhancement of the learner experience.

Complaints and Concerns

Individuals who believe they have experienced discrimination, harassment, or unfair treatment are encouraged to raise the matter promptly with the centre. Concerns will be handled sensitively, confidentially, and fairly, and will be investigated in accordance with the organisation’s Complaints or Grievance procedures. No person will suffer detriment for raising a genuine concern in good faith.

Training and Awareness

SCTNI Limited will promote awareness of equality and diversity responsibilities through guidance, communication, and training for staff and associates. The aim is to ensure that all individuals understand their obligations and contribute positively to an inclusive culture. Ongoing awareness supports compliance and strengthens the organisation’s commitment to fairness.

Monitoring and Review

This policy will be reviewed annually, or sooner where legislative or organisational changes require, to ensure that it remains current, effective, and aligned with best practice. Lessons learned from feedback, complaints, or quality assurance processes will inform future revisions.
